I’m continually amazed by how quickly you can get swept up in things, especially without even realizing how far out you are until you can barely touch the ground.
And sometimes you’re not even focused on your own stuff! Other things and people in your life just seem to take over before you know it. I guess my recent reflections have been more on staying grounded and focused on what you need in your life to stay centered. It’s been good though, understanding your own needs and how you work is critical when it comes to setting good boundaries for work/relationships.
In addition to the two jobs I’ve currently been holding down, I’ve been working through a Skillcrush package of blueprints. Don’t ask me why I thought it would be easy to tackle that along with everything else I’ve got going on, but I am glad I started it! I’ve already learned so much and the community involved in this online class series is absolutely fantastic! So supportive and encouraging. It’s just really time-consuming. Part of my downfall is my overwhelming need to be a perfectionist and do the lessons exactly the right way. There are a few hard and fast rules for sure, but the more time I spent on learning these concepts, the more I realize that most people will have their own way of doing things. And it’s perfectly okay. Kind of relieving when you think about it.
I’m trying to also keep up with reading new books (trying to keep my mind active and vocabulary exercised), but sometimes the only time I have to “read” is during chores, so I’ve been listening to audiobooks. Audible has saved me quite a bit, sometimes you just need a book in any way you can get it! I just finished a very interesting book titled “#Girlboss” by Sophia Amoruso. She built a clothing company from an eBay store in her twenties and grew to be named one of the richest self-made women in the world in a very short amount of time. The book is an autobiography but has a lot of good points on being an entrepreneur that I really appreciated. As a woman, it always helps to hear about other women succeeding in such an awesome way! She no longer runs the company, but now spends her time running Girlboss Media, inspiring women to take control of their own lives and build their own successes. The one thing that struck me the most is that no matter how many closed doors she came across, she kept on trying. A good reminder for all of us.
When you get so focused on other things that take over your life, it’s hard to step back and see where your successes are. Especially if you are one of those people like me who does care about what others think. It can be a tough thing to work with for sure! Sometimes you just get lost in all the ways you didn’t do it right according to someone else. But seeing other role models going through the same struggles and coming out on top is infinitely encouraging.
