Well, I guess the messenger raven didn’t get through

When you have two jobs, classes, several pets and a habit of playing video games to relax, it’s really amazing how much you don’t notice time flying out the window.

Just in the span of… well… whatever decade I last wrote a post in, so much has developed in my little career. I am still working as a computer tech and now I have a more detailed job description in my virtual assistant job as well. Basically, I do everything and anything. Narrows it down a whole lot. I guess Administrative Assistant could cover the scope of what I do, but in case that doesn’t detail it enough- I am head of the Website Design/Maintenance department, head of the Blog Post Editing/Publishing department, head of the Social Media Content department, head of the Customer Service department, head of the Graphic Design department,  and now since our marketing manager moved on, I’m head of the Marketing department. Which mostly consists of Social Media Marketing. How do you fit all of that on a business card?

All joking aside, it’s been highly educational, albeit a little stressful at times. Okay… a lot stressful at times. Back at the office, I’ve also become the resident Website Designer and contact person for all things Website. And all things computer repair. I am the “Tech Shop”. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem slow things down any and the high demand to finish the projects never seems to lessen. Four website projects and countless inflow-outflow of computers keeps you busy and the day passes by much faster than you think it should.

I used to drown my sorrows in a hot, perfect breve from my favorite coffee shop, but with cutting out dairy from my diet- I can’t even have that little treat. And I’m sorry, but coconut creamer just isn’t the same. This is where you usually hear me sighing, looking longingly into the coffee shop window, nose pressed against the glass… knowing the restriction is for a good cause (my health) but still wishing I could have just one more taste…

No, I’m not really that melodramatic, but sometimes it’s fun to pretend. I actually feel like I’ve adjusted fairly well to my new dietary restrictions and for the most part, after being sick so much the last half of 2017, I’m more dedicated to improving my health than ever. Diet, exercise, and sleep. When your doctor tells you you have the worst sleep schedule she’s seen, you kind of start to pay attention. And then you hear the faint “I told you so” coming from your mom way across the distance. Almost telepathically. In all fairness, she did tell me so on several occasions and I just didn’t listen. I’m pretty sure a couple other people I know warned me about it too.

Back to the original topic though- it has been one interesting year for sure. Thankfully I’m finishing up with my classes and then it’ll be back to just the two jobs. I feel very fortunate to have found something for a career that really interests me and my goal is to keep growing this year. So many opportunities to learn and expand my knowledge, I just hope I can end up doing more of it from home. *hint, hint*

The most exciting thing is that I am learning so many new aspects of both my jobs that I never thought I would have been capable of. ‘Cause that’s for smart people, right? In my case, I think it’s more stubbornness and intense determination that keeps me on the right side of the boat. That and Grammarly. Grammarly has been a frustration saver ever since I started using it. And I go through a lot of text in a day, whether writing it myself or proof-reading someone else’s. If you haven’t tried it, give it a test run! It’ll change your life. Or at least make the spelling and grammar part of your life a little easier.

Another goal for this year is to practice my writing skills, developing a voice and forming the habit of making concise content. Practice makes perfect they say, so my thought is that the better I get at my own writing, the better I’ll be at editing the content I’m in charge of. Makes a little sense right? It’s usually said that 250 words per day, just to get you in the habit, is a good place to start. I think I usually have trouble keeping it under 250, especially when my brain starts rolling. We’ll see how well this plan unfolds, but hopefully, I can get this cemented as a habit. When I do find the time for it, it really is therapeutic!

Thank you for listening
